Is there a fee to apply? No, there is no application fee to enter any of the Bright Future program pathways.
I live outside of Kabul and my business operations will be also outside of Kabul, still, I can be part of the program? Currently the program is being implemented in Kabul and the beneficiaries and their business should be based in Kabul.
I am based more than one hour away from Kabul; can I still apply? We strongly prefer businesses that are located less than an hour away from Kabul, to ensure our team can visit these businesses frequently and so participants can attend at least 80% of our trainings. However, we do sometimes bend the rules for businesses that show exceptional motivation to participate.
How much does it cost to participate in the program? Participating in the program is free of charge, however, you should be committed to hire interns from The Bright Future employment program.
Can businesses in all sectors apply? The Bright Future program does not have a specific sectorial focus, but there are some restricted industries. For example, we do not support businesses that work in harmful industries, such as alcohol, tobacco, arms, or mining.
What is expected from me? We expect you to be motivated and committed throughout the duration of the program. As such, participants are expected to attend at least 80% of the trainings offered throughout the program. We expect you to be eager to learn, and to be honest and open in your communication with us, the consultants you will be working with, as well as your peers on the program
What is the process to join a Bright Future Program? You have to fill the online/offline application for the program you want to apply for. After the filtering process of the applicants, if you were shortlisted, you will be invited for an interview. You will officially be part of the program when you get the necessary admission score from the panel.
What kind of support will we receive when we participate in the Bright Future Program? You will receive professional class-based training on starting and managing a business. You will have access to a wide network of business mentors and coaches to support you technically in establishing/developing your business.
How much time should I allocate to the program weekly? That depends on which program you follow. Check out the pages for the different programs employability, incubation and acceleration for more information on the time dedication.
Business Incubation Questions
My business is generating revenues that are just under the minimum requirements, can I still apply? For Pathway 2 “Growing your Business” we only select businesses that generate more than USD 25,000 in revenue per year or business that have more than USD 50,000 in assets. However, we do make exceptions at times for high-potential businesses that can demonstrate a strong growth history.
Is Bright Future providing funding? There is no guarantee of investment connected to participation in the Bright Future program. Under the incubation program, participants are supported with crowdfunding. If you are able to raise $500 in crowdfunding yourself, the program will provide you with another $500 match.
I have just a basic business idea, can I apply for the program? Yes, the incubation program of Bright Future is for those who have a business idea or a young startup and are passionate to start their own businesses.
I work for a private company, but I have a feasible business idea and I want to start my own business, Can I apply to the program? Yes, the incubation program of Bright Future is for those who have a business idea and are passionate to start their own businesses. However, you have to be able to participate in at least 80% of the sessions.
What will happen to us and our business when we graduate from the program? After successfully graduating from the program, you will be followed up by ASARA, where you will receive technical support from the mentors and coaches.
We are a group of motivated, Kabul-based, university graduates; can we participate in a group? Yes, you can, but each of you should have a specific title in the business. For instance, Founder, Co-Founder, etc. The participation of the founder is a must in the training sessions.
Business Acceleration Questions
I have a great business idea, can I apply? For the Accelerator track of the Bright Future Program, we are looking for ambitious entrepreneurs that have already taken significant steps to test their ideas and have a business that has been operating for at least 12 months. Businesses that are not yet generating revenue will not be considered for this program. For those with a business idea looking to develop the skills to set up their own business, the Business Incubation track may be more suitable.
Can I apply if my business is not registered? Yes, you can still apply to The acceleration program, but we do expect you to register your business upon acceptance to the program.
Can I apply with a non-profit, CBO, or cooperative? Unfortunately, our program is not suitable for cooperatives, CBOs, or non-profits. Only for-profit companies are invited to apply.
What does the selection program entail? The application form is the first step of the application process.
How much time am I expected to dedicate to the program? Under the acceleration program we provide 2 hours of coaching credits per month. The training sessions we offer will amount to approximately 4 hours per week for 8 weeks, of which you are expected to attend 80% of. For consultants supporting you with specific business functions, such as Finance or Marketing, we expect a member of your team responsible for this area to work intensively alongside the consultant. Furthermore, there are additional networking and peer-to-peer events that you are highly encouraged to attend. Overall, your success in the program largely depends on how much time you and your team invest in it.
Is Bright Future providing funding? There is no guarantee of investment connected to participation in the Bright Future program. However, all companies under the acceleration program will be supported to get “investment-ready”, and upon graduation will have the opportunity to pitch their business to the Cordaid investment team to be considered for a debt investment. Cordaid will also help businesses to gain access to other investors and financial institutions to meet their funding requirements.
Is Bright Future taking equity (ownership) in my company? No, the Cordaid accelerator does not obtain equity in companies participating in the program.
